The Environment
and what we’re doing to protect it
The Environment
Part of our mission here at The Fizzy Pheasant is to promote and enhance rural life and the beautiful countryside that we live in. It is no surprise, therefore, that protecting and preserving our environment is very important to us.
We are committed to not only minimising our impact on the environment but also, where possible, counterbalancing it with positive, environment improving, actions. This is done not just through our business, but is ingrained in our personal life, too.
HERE IS SOME OF WHAT WE DO FOR THE ENVIRONMENT:
We stock local, small-batch and artisan products wherever possible.
We use glass or melamine reusable glasses wherever possible.
Where not possible, we only use Veg-ware compostable glass/cup alternatives.
For hot drinks, we use compostable spoons and stirrers as well as sugar sachets.
We only sell mixers in glass bottles or cans, and we take all of our waste away with us from events and recycle it.
We use paperless accounting and administrative systems.
We do not use any single-use plastic.
AND AT HOME:
We grow our own veg in our kitchen garden, which provides much of our vegetables throughout the year. Our aim is to get 80% or more from our own produce.
We have 5 acres of land and plant and maintain many trees, including planting 8 fruit trees this winter to start an orchard that will provide us with food, absorb carbon and provide pollen for bees, amongst many other biodiversity benefits.
We also plant wildflowers in our gardens to help biodiversity.
We leave areas of our hedges ‘wild’ for animals.
We are renovating our home to be extremely thermally efficient and have renewable energy sources.
We are hoping to build a base for The Fizzy Pheasant here at our home, meaning between events we will have no commute and so no vehicular carbon footprint.
